LARAMIE, WY (May 1, 2024) - Tennis is booming in Wyoming, and what better way to celebrate than through special events, promotions and play opportunities in as part of National Tennis Month this May!

National Tennis Month is a nationwide grassroots effort driven by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and its industry partners celebrating tennis, a sport which challenges one both physically and mentally. For 31 straight days, players, local coaches, facilities, retailers, tennis manufacturers and more will be driving awareness about the sport and its benefits by bringing existing and new players to the game with FREE events, promotions and play opportunities in their communities.

Across the country, tennis participation has seen significant growth over past several years. According to the latest Physical Activity Council’s participation report, nearly 24 million people hit the tennis courts in 2023.  Participation in Cardio Tennis has also increased.  One hour of Cardio Tennis can burn an enormous amount of calories, between 300-300 for females and between 600-800 for males.  And playing tennis on a weekly basis can add life to your years and years to your life with avid tennis players living an average of 9.7 years longer according to a 2018 Mayo Clinic research study.

Wyoming recently has seen an uptick in the demand for development and refurbishment of tennis facilities as a result. “A new ten court high school tennis complex was completed in Casper this past fall,” said USTA Executive Director Peg Connor. “Another long-awaited initiative is on deck in Jackson with interest in building or refurbishing tennis facilities from several other communities. The free tennis activities scheduled this May will bring much appreciated attention to these projects and the many tennis events, activities, and programs taking place across the state this May and throughout the year.”

Participants signing up for a National Tennis Month or Hit To Be Fit event in May are automatically registered to win a pair of tickets to the 2024 US Open. One pair of tickets will be awarded each week during National Tennis Month.  Visit usta.com/ntm to find and register for free tennis events near you.
